Day Trading System

To begin with, I wish to convey a highly Healthy And Wealthy New Year to all of you.

In a quest to improve my trading, in conjunction with my trading style, strategy and my trading temperament, since last couple of months I have been working with a system which I wish to share with you all. The results were quite satisfactory.

My new system as follows:

Market: NSE India

Instruments: IDFC, JSW Steel, SBIN, Tatamotors and USDINR

Charting software: Ninjatrader

Indicators used: HMA, Bollinger Bands, MACD, CCI & RSI, Murrey math and Pivot Points

Time frames: 933 sec., 456 sec., 321 sec.and 231 sec.

Indicator settings: HMA-26, Bollinger Bands–14, 0.26, MACD–12,26,9, CCI–14 & RSI–14,6

Entry Methods:

For Long Bulls:

1. Price is clearly above HMA & Bollinger bands

2. MACD histogram is above zero line

For Short Bulls:

1. Price is clearly below HMA & Bollinger bands

2. MACD histogram is below zero line

I use RSI, CCI & MACD to study, as always, the strengths and weaknesses of the price movement. Despite my having used, on & off, HMA and Bollinger bands since 2008, I never realized the full potential of them until recent past and since then, my entire trading has taken a dramatic change. The system is self-explanatory and if you need further clarification, I would love to guide you through.

Moving Average Crossing with MACD

How To Find Your Talent: “Do one thing every day that scares you.”—Eleanor Roosevelt.”

Dear Friends,

First of all, I wish you all a highly Healthy And Wealthy 2011. I also wish to thank you all for your overwhelming response.

EU_EZ_030111In continuation to my previous discussions on MA Crossing Strategy, I am starting a fresh series explaining my enhanced MA (Moving Average) Crossing Strategy with one of the most powerful indicators, MACD (Moving Average Convergence And Divergence). With these two powerful set of indicators combined together, you will be able to identify both No Trade Zones as well as Trade Zones with ease. Always remember, the charts, the strategies will only tell you what’s happening in the market, only YOU should learn as to what to do.

Also I would like to inform you all, the indicators that I use in my charts are customized to suit my needs and temperament; I always prefer visual representation, with the Ninjatrader I am able to achieve it.

The charts shown here are from yesterday’s, 3rd Jan, 2011, EURUSD, between 8.00 GMT and 17.00 GMT. The highlighted areas clearly show the Trade Zones.

EU_EZ1_030111The first chart is 402 ticks chart and the second one is 123 sec. chart. Moving Average Crossing settings remain as they were earlier, only MACD has been slightly altered to display in sync with MA Crossings the Trade Zones and No Trade Zones. I am using higher numbers in my MACD in order to remove the noises and present a clear picture. The No Trade Zones are represented by White Background in my MACD.

If you are interested in learning more about MACD, I can recommend you to watch this video:

Markus Heitkoetter, CEO of Rockwell Trading is a kind of trader, a coach and a father to a lovely girl, I would humbly bow my head to, for I learnt a lot from him. Honestly, I can never match him when it comes to coaching.

MA (Moving Average) Crossing-4

Yesterday’s market, 16th instant, was one classic example, despite the sentiment being weak, how many of us - day traders, can easily lose money and throw our hands on the air claiming “I can’t trade this market, too volatile; don’t know where and when to enter…” and how many of us look for a pull back, thinking the market is already too heavily over sold and get chopped off either way.

TF_161110Usually, the first hour of the US market decides, instead of how many traders can stay there, should continue trading successfully. I have attached the first hour TF-Mini 2000 Russell Index chart for your reference and highlighted No Trade Zones. The first chart with 806 Ticks clearly shows the trend is down but the second with 169 Ticks helps identifying the No Trade Zones.

Undoubtedly with the lower time frame and low EMA values, I can avail all the trades that my higher time frame usually rejects but somehow I found that both do not suit my temperament. May be due to my age factor.

MA (Moving Average) Crossing-3

In my previous articles I had briefly discussed about what I look for and why, while I am trading – “NO TRADE ZONES”.

TF_121110In this article, I wish to share with you both No Trade Zones as well as Trade Zones. It’s not that important what time frame or MA settings I use in my charts, it varies between chart types and chart times but the most important thing is concept of the system. As I had mentioned in my previous article, I can only give the concept, you must work upon it. My system cannot be traded mechanically, it requires deeper involvement, interest, commitment and concentration. Let the eyes work for you and try to refrain from thinking deeply.

To be very frank, I still make some hastey mistakes by violating my system, losing my patience and entering a trade too early and getting stuck, thus allowing large drawdowns. But I am very strict about focussing on one instrument at a time, never put my hands on all the 3 instruments at the same time, end up with head ache and negative balance at the end of the day. The prime reason is, before starting with any instrument, I spend some time studying various aspects happening in the market for, my trading does not solely depend on technical alone.

My trading schedule is, I follow 6E (Euro) during London market hour and start with TF or CL during US market hour.

TF_1_121110In the images,  there are 2 charts, one with larger chart time and another with smaller chart time, both are of TF–Mini-Russell 2000 Index, 12th instant. I have highlighted both No Trade Zones and Trade Zones. I generally avoid first 30 minutes of the market, to allow all the noise to subside and wait for the trend to form. I also refer 15 and 30 min. charts mainly for volume, for I take volume very seriously into account in my trading. I don’t want to elaborate much as I am sure anyone with basic technical analysis knowledge and understanding will be able to follow the system.

I reiterate that this system is not that easy to follow and I would request you if you want to experiment, to spend time studying various aspects until you reach a stage you can allow your eyes to tell you what to do and when to do.

MA (Moving Average) Crossing-2

Thanks to all the media, Market is abuzz with all sorts of noise which only help day traders in a big way. With the right trading plan, strategy and attitude, I am sure if not all the day traders, most can succeed.

As I had mentioned in my previous post, while I am trading I only look for No Trade Zones; I have already explained why.

In this post, I am adding yet another illustration of No Trade Zones for your understanding. The screen shots are from 1st of Nov.10 CL charts.

CL – No Trade ZonesCL-No Trades

In this illustration, CL’s activities can be seen during the 1st half of the London Session.

MA (Moving Average) Crossing-1

“No Trading Strategy can perform on its own and produce 100% results, it is entirely based on the user. The strategy is like a Light House, giving us direction and guidance to the destination”.

“A trader who works 70% on his self and 30% on his strategy, closes the day with positive results than the trader works the other way round”

“Anticipation is healthier for a day trader than Prediction” – Quote from BigMikeTrading by BigMike

In continuation to my previous article on MA Crossing, I wish to further elaborate with illustrations certain aspects of this strategy.

Irrespective of what time frame you use, the concept remains same. I have made some changes in my time frames since my last post which I found to suit my temperament. I use 13 Sec., 39 Sec. and 105 Sec. in my charts.

All of us know that Day Trading is intense, involves huge amount of stress and drains out almost all the energy by the time we close our terminals. In order to overcome these, I changed my entire trading approach looking for No Trade Zones instead of looking for entry points. By this way, I am able to largely reduce my stress level and remain energetic and active throughout the trading session.

While in the market,  I just use my eyes with my system, I try to avoid thinking; I let my eyes tell me whether there is any trade or not.  More importantly when there is no trade.

My strategy is discretionary like any of my earlier strategies and it is quite complex. I can only share with you the concept, how I use it in my trading and you must work to learn all the nuances of this strategy.

No Trade Zones:

TF – (Mini-Russell2000):

On 28th of Oct.10, after a big fall, TF has been trying to find a direction. This is a zone, I would clearly keep my hands off.

In this image, captured for this post sake at the same time as the above one, heavy noise after a big fall is too visible – A Clear No Trade Zone

MA (Moving Average) Crossing

“No Trading Strategy can perform on its own and produce 100% results, it is entirely based on the user. The strategy is like a Light House, giving us direction and guidance to the destination”.

“A trader who works 70% on his self and 30% on his strategy, closes the day with positive results than the trader works the other way round”

********

Trading with Moving Average Crossing has perhaps been one of the most popular methods used by traders, especially Simple and Exponential Average Moving Averages Crossing.

I wish to share with you why I use MA crossings and how I use them in my trading strategy.

A normal approach to MA crossing always leads to substantial failures, while if you take time to study the beauty of this system, you will find why it is such a wonderful system if properly used. Needless to say, it is always recommended to use RSI & MACD before deciding to go for a trade on MA Crossings as they nicely complement with each other.

Understanding the distance between MAs, be it SMAs or EMAs, is very much important before entering a trade. There are instances when all the MAs can be found way apart from each other, this is the stage to avoid any trades; while there are times when they are respectably closer to each other. The best time to go for a trade is when all the MAs converge at one point. Since SMA is  lagging in nature, the entry signal may be delayed.

I am a Day Trader.

My trading strategy is based on MAs crossings. I use 3 charts and I use 4 different MAs in each of these charts.

Also, I use RSI & MACD to measure the strengths and weaknesses of the price movement.

I trade the following Futures Instrument:

1. TF (Mini-Russell 2000 Index) (PitBull-1)

2. CL (Crude Oil) (PitBull-2)

My entry strategies:

I follow 2 Trend following strategies:

1. Long Bull Strategy

2. Short Bull Strategy

1. My trading entries are based on 15 Sec. chart while I use 6 Range and 2 Min. to know the direction of the Price.

2. I enter a trade only when all 4 MAs in 15 Sec. chart converge at one point.

3. There are times when MAs in both 6 Range and 15 Sec. charts converge at one point, this is perhaps the best time to aim for larger ticks.

4. If for any reasons I miss a trade, I keep quiet and watch until I get another chance, never chase the price.

5. I also use Pivot and Weekly Fib. levels for supports and resistances.

6. I avoid sideways market, avoid News time trading.

My Exit Strategy:

I look for 6 to 10 ticks per trade.

My Daily Target:

30 to 40 Ticks

In my next articles, I will further elaborate how I use MA crossings with illustrations.

Russell 2000 Index-29-06-2010

Mini-Russell2000-15M-29-06-2010Yet another volatile session, with perhaps sizable intraday spread is in the offing.

Yesterday, the rise to 648 was without any credible strength, which resulted in the immediate retreat. As I notice, the index has taken a hit during Asian and European sessions, the American session should provide some relief with some short covering.

Today’s expected trading range: 627 – 637

My probable Supports: 627, 617, 605; Resistances: 637, 643

Russell 2000 Index-27-06-2010

Russell2000-15M-27-06-2010With 627 support, the index made a remarkable pull back on 25th instant. Although the present rise to 645 was quite strong, chances are bright, 648 can provide good resistance, before trying to test 652.

On the down side, 635 and 628 have good chances to hold the fort for the time being, unless something unusual triggers a steep fall to 617.

My probable Supports: 634, 630, 627; Resistances: 645, 648, 652
